BitterSweet chocolates are based in Melbourne, England.

Melbourne is a small, attractive Georgian market town in rural South Derbyshire within the boundaries of the National Forest.

For many hundreds of years, the main industry in Melbourne was market gardening which benefitted from the rich soils of the area. Boot and shoe manufacture together with frame knitting were also key industries.Through the 1960s and 70s the traditional industries declined and Melbourne is now primarily a thriving residential town servicing the nearby cities of Derby and Nottingham.

Throughout this period of change, Melbourne has retained much of its character and charm and is a rural haven in the industrial heart of England.

Over the years, Melbourne has featured in history on a number of occasions:

• In 1837 a small settlement in Australia was named after Lord Melbourne
• Melbourne was also the birthplace of Thomas Cook generally acknowledged as the father of the modern package tour holiday.
• The River Trent at Swarkestone bridge just a mile North of Melbourne was the most Southerly point reached by Bonnie Prince Charlie's invading army in 1745.
